That’s Day Two in the bag at the GKA SuperFoil 2020 Brazil. Good wind and nice waves have made for a great start to the main event. Getting through two complete rounds on the water and right into the semi-finals in one day, we couldn’t have asked for more!
The format for the elimination ladder in the SuperFoil Brazil event is a single-elimination, which means the top riders from Round One are bumped directly into Round Three. In Round Two the runner up riders from Round One face each other, or if they are fortunate enough that rider numbers are not equal they also move forward into the third round.
In Round Three, there was an extremely close heat between the event veteran, Nicolas March Paniza and Maxime Chabloz. Nicolas gave younger athlete Maxime Chabloz a run for his money and kept the younger rider on his toes in an exciting, action-packed round. Nicolas reeled in points with combinations of board offs and front rodeos. Maxime won by a lead of just three points which put him into the semi-finals against Fred Hope who was also going straight through into Round Three.
It was a day of close rounds for Maxime Chabloz, who went on to have an even closer heat in the semi-finals against Fred Hope, who beat Nilson Costa to make it though. Both Maxime and Fred rode exceptionally well, Fred combined many tricks with fluidity and calmness, he even came to the beach and swapped his strapless board for one with straps, a tactical move which demonstrated the wide variety of skills the young American has. It came down to just .17, but Fred won.
Fred will now face Charles Brodel in the finals, who went straight into Round Three after winning against Pedro Vianna Silva. Charles went on to win against Titouan Galea in the semi-finals, he will now compete against Maxime in the mini final. Titouan won against Loic Brismontier, in Round Three to secure his place in the mini finals.
