Riders put on a show during the big air competition, which took place on the final day of the Squamish KiteClash. Philipp Schonger had the biggest jump of the day, at 14.2 metres. Colleen Carroll finished on top of the women’s podium. KiteClash provides a full recap, below.

The last day of KiteClash was reserved for the crowd-pleaser Big Air. British champ Lewis Crathern showed the fans why he’s invited to the Red Bull King of the Air. However the highest jump of the day and title went to Seattle’s Philipp Schonger, with a jump of 14.2 metres. Crathern got silver with some mega-loops and Lucas Arsenault placed third including a 9.2 second boost. Squamish rider Daniel Grains placed fourth, showing off some technical big air riding.

Overall the event went very well, Arsenault said. The crowds were big and the after-parties late, he noted. “Squamish’s kiteboarding facility and the friendly-community make it a place you want to return to,” he said.

The women put on an amazing show. Colleen Carroll got massive hang time, with some board-offs and high-flying tricks. Her sick moves won her first place. Annelous Lammerts showed off her control in the air placing second and Marilys Lacroix Samson placed third with deadman.

Arsenault already has KiteClash 2018 marked on his calendar. “I’ll be trying to get the Canadian title back. We can’t let it slide to Sam (Medysky) for too long…. seven years is a long time.”
