The 2017 IKA KiteFoil Gold Cup season is to mark its opening round by heading to an exciting new continent, as the tour makes its debut appearance in Asia.
So, get set for a new experience as we take you to Korea and the sea city of Boryeong and Daecheon beach. Although this may be the first international kiteboarding event to reach the country, Korea is no stranger to world-class competition, and it is set to make this an event to remember.
Hosted by the Korean Windsurf & Kiteboard Federation (KWKF) and supported by the KTA, the opening round of the Kitefoil Gold Cup will also incorporate a KTA Open TTR fleet. TTR has strong foundations in Asia and its inclusion will not only create a high level of interest from riders around the region, but also provide a full regatta feel to the event. The KTA TTR Open will be run with the new YOG race formats.
Daecheon beach is located on the coast of the Yellow Sea, which sits almost 2 hours by road from Incheon International Airport and the country’s capital, Seoul.
Boryeong is well known in Korea for its wide sandy beaches and mild climate. The competition month of May averages air temperatures of 22 °C and water temperatures of 15 °C. Wind speeds at this time of year should give us between 12 -18kts.
