Interview with DAVID TONIJUAN COLOMER:
How was born your passion for kitesurf? How did you begin?
My dad started out when the sport was very young, I was always at the beach looking at how he was flying… One day I decided to take a kite and learn from him. I was a kid so I wasn’t scared even though I had bad crashes, but this is how I’ve learned… So, this has been my passion ever since I was a kid and this is going be forever.
What’s a perfect session for you?
Flat water lagoon, kickers out the river mouth, 17 knots and warm weather.
What’s your favorite spot and why?
I love so many spots. Brazil, Tarifa, Cape Town, Home… I like to kite in all different conditions.
There is no better feeling than a pure freestyle session in one of those lagoons in Brazil. There is nothing funnier than a Kicker’s session with the Poniente winds in Tarifa or a hardcore training in Cape Town… But then, I have to say that after travelling so much, the expression “HOME SWEET HOME” is REAL!!!
How are you organizing your season between training, trips and competition?
Well, I used to structure my year in an easy way. As I am also studying a degree at the university, that’s the first thing I do when I wake up (2h every day is enough). After that, it all depends on how the wind looks, if it’s windy I go straight to have a training session, otherwise I look for another exercise options, I am a board and extreme sports lover…
When I am in a competition, I am fully focused on it, physical exercises, stretching, and short but intense kite sessions. When I don’t have any competition, I usually go on training trips. There is no wind where I live, so I always have to travel to get some wind.
What is your best memory in kite and why?
Every trip I have done so far, every new experience involved into the “kite world” are the best memories and feelings that I will always remember…
What is your life philosophy?
“Carpe diem”, as easy as that. I also believe that the hard work wins the talent when the talent is not used.
What is the craziest thing you ever did?
All my life is CRAZY 😉
