Mozambique is one of the most exciting countries you'll ever visit - the long Indian Ocean coastline is dotted with incredible beaches. From Kitesurfing to surfing, scuba diving, safaris, fishing and more, there is something for everyone to enjoy! Make sure you take a break from kiteboarding and check out Kruger National Park while you are there - you won't regret it!
Maputo's (the capital) simple, laid-back beach life draws travellers here. Favoured by South Africans as their secret beach escape, you'll find low-key, boutique lodges, dazzling white sands and mineral-rich waters inhabited by abundant marine life.
Praia do Bilene is a small village located about 3 hours north of the capital, and this is also where you'll find some of the best kiteboarding Mozambique offers. Praia do Bilene's market is on the main street and where you will find an abundance of fruits, vegetables and souvenirs. You'll also find a few bars and restaurants.
Praia do Tofo is another small village located about 7 hours from the capital, and it is built inside a bay. This spot can get quite touristic. There are several small surf shops in the area if you want to rent surfing gear and three big PADI 5 stars diving schools on the site if you're potentially diving with whale sharks, dolphins, and mantas!
The windy season kicks off from September to March, ranging from 15 - 25 knots daily. The weather temperature varies from 40c on a sunny day to 20c on a stormy day, so make sure you pack a couple of sweatshirts. I took my shorty for kiteboarding, and that worked perfectly, so I'd recommend you also pack one of those.
The easiest way to get around is local transportation; it's cheap and reliable!
The restaurants mainly offer fish, prawns, chicken with salad or rice. As Mozambique has so many fruit trees, you've come to the right place if you like fruit juice.
At night, most bars and restaurants will have live music on.
You'll enjoy the 'no wind' days just as much as the windy days - there is so much to do! You can either go on safari, go surfing, fishing or diving or relax on Mozambique's gorgeous white sand beaches. There is also loads to see around the capital if you'd like to spend the day away from the sea.
Most of the hotels will have Wifi, but the easiest option is to get a phone card from the shop and use that instead.
For accommodation, there is a small hotel in Praia do Bilene called Hotel Palmeras. The rooms cost about 45 Euros for a four-person room. It has a kiteboarding school called BKC. Nothing luxurious but perfect for that price! When I went to Praia do Tofo, I stayed at a Casa Na Praia hotel, which was my favourite. There are several cheaper options in the area too.

The central lagoon where all the hotels are is massive. If you plan to stay in the lagoon, the best direction to kite is from the North, but it can be pretty gusty, and the water becomes choppy.
I would recommend you take a local boat ride (it costs about 20 Euros) to the "Secret Spot" - which is about 10 minutes away. This spot is unbelievable! If you're into your freestyle, you're going to love this! Just make sure you head there at high tide, or else you'll be waiting a while before you can go for a session!
