Drying your wetsuits isn’t usually a problem, especially if you live somewhere hot and sunny. However, in many parts of the world, come winter, cometh the weather. Here in the UK, we go from a mediocre summer to a period of dampness that seems never-ending. Usually, I have two wetsuits in rotation in an attempt to always have a dry one to put on.

What this actually means I leave two wet wetsuits in a bucket, and my sessions at the beach are all the more miserable for it. Step up then the Surf Logic Wetsuit Dryer, a device I was introduced to earlier this year, but seeing as the sun was out, I didn’t see the point.

A good sales pitch always involves a need from the customer, so when I was asked if I wanted to test a wetsuit dryer while it was raining and cold outside, I thought why not. All too often in sports, you find someone trying to fix a problem that doesn’t really exist, consider all the crap kite line management tools that have come and gone. I wondered where the wetsuit dryer would fit into that mix.

Before I get onto that, let’s talk about the accessories hanger, this thing kind of blew my mind, so simple, yet so smart. EVERY watersports enthusiast needs one of these in their life. It’s just fantastic. Perfectly designed to fit boots, gloves and a hood, and if you have nowhere to hang it the base rotates so it stands on the floor. It’s pure, unfettered genius that I can no longer live without. Get one. Simple.

Back to the dryer, it actually took me a little longer to test, it needs a plug socket to power the powerful motor, that delivers 6000 litres of air a minute! Personally, I’m sofa surfing a bit at the moment, so finding someone willing enough for me to hang a suit up indoors was tricky. Once I’m back in my own home, I’ll be setting up a wetsuit drying area though.

The pretext of the device is simple, just stick it inside the neck of your suit, hang it up, plug it in and turn it on. It then heats up the elements, spins the fan and blasts hot air around your suit. There is a timing cut off, so after an hour it will auto switch off. I have to say the first time I used it I was pretty darn impressed. I’d left my suit wet in a bucket, wanted to go for a surf and realised I could potentially have a dry suit within an hour.

That is precisely what I got, an hour of drying and my 5/4 hooded suit was dry as a bone and warm and toasty to boot. It’s noisy, I have no idea what the electricity consumption is like, and I can’t imagine it’s doing the environment any favours. However, if it makes winter kiting more pleasurable, then maybe I’m less likely to fly so far away for a session. Perhaps I’ll plant some trees too.

Essentially I’m sold, Surf Logic have created something that works an absolute charm, does what it says on the tin and has improved my winter kitesurfing experience no end. It’s expensive, but break the cost down to the number of times you’ll use it over the winter, and it doesn’t really cost that much.

There is also an accessories drying bag, just chuck your boots and gloves in and dry them in no time at all. Surf Logic have come forward with a range of well thought out products that guess what, are perfectly logical must-haves for any waterman.

The Wetsuit Dryer is brilliant, but the accessories hanger, you need that in your life. Get them now from New Rock.
