At A Glance
Kitelement have a full range of ‘split’ kiteboards, and we were very excited to get our hands on the newly updated 2020 ReSolve. The ‘freestyle’ board in the split pack, it features a carbon lay up, a moderate rocker line and the new A Lock joint system.
Based upon their classic construction twin tip; the ReTort, the ReSolve is a board for more advanced riders and freestylers who simply need a board which can be split in two for easy travel and storage, but will accept no compromise on performance.
The joint system has been simplified and the strength increased to create a fool-proof connection using 6 screws. The good people at Kitelement also recognise said screws can often go missing in travel so always include a couple of extras in the pack, just in case.
Both tip and Quattro base channelling complete the bottom of the board for insane grip and water displacement even when ridden without fins, and the polyurethane side walls are even harder than ABS and create a solid and long-lasting outline to the board.
Sizes: 132x39, 136x41, 140x43, 144x44 cm
"Gone are the days when a split board was something of a second choice necessity"
On The Water
The ReSolve is instantly comfortable underfoot, helped no doubt by the soft and supportive pad and straps supplied. A slightly shallower rocker line than the ReTort gets you planing quickly and the board grips well once riding with speed thanks to the base and tip channels on offer.
Narrow tips reduce the spray being thrown up and allow some fun rail-to-rail transfers and slashes in any lumps of water that come your way. Through chop the board is comfortable, again the smaller tips allow an easy line to be cut and pronounced rocker line keeps things comfortable for take-offs and landings in chop.
The ReSolve will hold an awful lot of energy in the build up to release and you would be surprised at the pop produced from this lively board. Feeling slightly smaller in size than the board actually is enables you to throw it around with ease in the air for both some old-school fun, and even midway through unhooked manoeuvres the board has a low swing weight.
The ReSolve is also compatible with boots and has strong inserts for those who are more wakestyle inclined. The performance in this dimension was nothing short of excellent for this remarkable board, which splits in half! Speed is your friend going into these tricks, but landings are kept super stable with the rocker and channelling holding you steady and driving you forward.
Overall
We could not be more impressed with the 2020 ReSolve. Gone are the days when a split board was something of a second choice necessity; the ReSolve proves you can have that high performing board which is also a split board. The fact it can split in half is simply a huge advantage rather than its only asset. Incredibly fun in all water states, the board holds some serious power which is released energetically to power you off the waters surface. Could this board, coupled with a foil kite, be the answer to travelling with hand luggage only? Quite possibly! Certainly it will remove the usual headaches of travelling with boardbags and over-sized luggage that’s for sure, and without having to lose any traits of a high performance kiteboard.
