At A Glance

I recently received the ION Amaze Amp 5/4 Front Zip wetsuit, and what better time to test it than during Storm Darragh! As a long-time fan of ION wetsuits, I was excited to try their latest model. What immediately stood out was the wetsuit’s Max_Flex outer lining, offering 30% more stretch compared to standard materials. I couldn’t even understand how that was possible as I had tested the previous model and was already impressed with it. This extra flexibility is focused on key areas like the chest, shoulders, and neck, guaranteeing a full range of motion. Paired with the Hot_Stuff 2.0 thermal lining on the front and the Plasma_Plush 2.0 lining on the back, you get a combo that can’t beat the warmth, wind-chill protection, and quick-drying functionality.

The wetsuit also has seamless shoulders, fused edges, and flexibly taped seams, ensuring safety and comfort. It is made with low-density I_Foam neoprene, incorporating oyster shell powder for peak heat retention and eco-friendliness. The Eco_Stretch material from recycled nylon waste highlights ION’s commitment to sustainability, which we’re a bit fan of.

On The Water

Getting into the wetsuit was snug, but unlike suits that can feel stiff, this one felt like a second skin once it was on—especially at the shoulders and arms, thanks to the silky Silk_Stuff lining. Despite being a 5/4 wetsuit designed for cold conditions (7°C - 12°C / 45°F - 54°F), it felt incredibly lightweight and flexible. I didn’t feel restricted for a moment.

I’ve always liked front-zip wetsuits, but the one-hand zip is probably my favourite feature of the wetsuit!

Even on a moody, stormy, windy day, I felt toasty without overheating. The strategically placed drain holes and water-sealing silicone prints meant no annoying water flushes.

Overall

The Amaze Amp 5/4 Front Zip is the perfect wetsuit for those who refuse to compromise warmth and mobility. It’s incredibly stretchy, sustainably made, and loaded with well-thought-out features that make long sessions in cold water easily bearable!

If you’re looking for a winter wetsuit with an eco-conscious design and unmatched comfort, the Amaze Amp should be at the top of your Christmas list!
