Hey, we get it. Wetsuits aren’t the most sustainable products on this planet. At Mystic, they’re trying their best to make a difference. This year, they’re making their wetsuits more eco-friendly by incorporating Yamamoto limestone neoprene into their high range wetsuits. For those rubber geeks out there, it’s the #39. Yamamoto’s most-used limestone rubber.

While you still have to put a lot of energy in processing limestone for wetsuit production, Yamamoto limestone is excavated in Osaka’s quarries and processed on-site. Waste energy is used to power local eel farms. This way they’re trying to get the most out of the situation and downsizing their ecological footprint.

Limestone neoprene gets produced in sheets of rubber. Because of high demand for the outer smooth layers of these sheets, for triathlon wetsuits, we’ve decided to go for the middle layers reducing neoprene waste big time.

This results in a new line of neoprene that’s known for high stretch and top-notch insulation. We’re very happy to welcome it into our production process and can’t wait for you to try it out.

Recyclable Packaging

By creating a more generic packaging we reduce the amount of waste of leftover packaging. Another way of reducing packaging is by minimizing the number of hangtags on our products. We strive to use paper and cardboard in our packaging as much as possible, but sometimes we still have to use plastics. Of course, we’ve made sure most of these are recycled.

Organic Materials

We improve our products sustainably by replacing materials with recycled goods, or by incorporating new materials with a lower impact on the environment. We’re already using organic cotton in our apparel line and switched to recycled polyester for our boardshorts. Each year we expand the number of products with more sustainable materials.

Good Shipping

We love working together with the GoodShipping Program. The GoodShipping Program is the first sustainable shipping initiative in the world. It helps in making container shipments less polluting. The Good Shipping program makes it possible to switch from heavy fuel oil to sustainable marine fuel mix. The low carbon marine fuel decreases our carbon footprint significantly.
